	Join Us! Your donations support our national educational efforts such as the House Rabbit Journal, classes and handouts, as well as local rescue work through grants to our local chapters. Please give generously. Thank you!
	Happy Birthday! House Rabbit Society celebrates our 20th anniversary and 20,000th rabbit saved in 2008!
	You Helped Us Fill This Bunny! House Rabbit Society's Emergency Rescue Fund was established in 2007 to allow us to help fund other organizations as well as HRS chapters who are struggling with large emergency rescues. All donations coming in that specify "Emergency Rescue Fund" go exclusively towards this fund; we use those funds to make small, targeted grants to animal rescue organizations who are involved in a large rescue of many rabbits. Funds have been used to purchase cages, litterboxes, food, hay and toys, as well as to fund spay/neuters and other veterinary care. So far, we have spent $11,250.00, with $6,600 going out in 2008 alone. ( Find out which groups have benefited from the fund so far.) To make a DONATION to this fund, be sure to include Emergency Rescue Fund in the description field of the online donation form (donations via snail mail are also gratefully accepted). Some of our most recent grants have gone to the support of: St. Louis House Rabbit Society to help with caring for dozens of rabbits from a rescue of over 360 animals; Bartlett Animal Shelter to help with caring for 119 rabbits from a cruelty case in West Tennessee; Wild Rescue of Texas to help with caring for 30 of the 119 rabbits from the TN cruelty case; Peeps and Creeps of Texas to help with spaying and neutering 50 rabbits and to start a low cost spay/neuter program; San Diego HRS to help with spaying and neutering 56 rabbits seized in a big cruelty case; Animal Friends, Inc. to help with a rescue of 46 rabbits in Ross Township, PA; St. Lucie Humane Society of Florida to help with their rabbit care; Critter Cafe Rescue of Michigan to help with the care of over 50 rabbits rescued from a foreclosed home; Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary of Stockton, CA to help with the care of 50 dwarf rabbits abandoned by a breeder.

PETCO Stops Selling Rabbits!
House Rabbit Society is delighted to annouced that PETCO has announced that they are ending the sale of rabbits in all of their stores. To read more about this decision, and the history of PETCO's rabbit sales, go to our press release.

Vote for HRS in the Shelter Win Challenge!
The Animal Rescue Site is running a Shelter Challenge from 9/29 - 12/14, and is offering $100,000 in cash grants to winning shelters. Now you can help us by picking HRS. Participating is simple. Just go to go to The Animal Rescue Site, and enter "House Rabbit Society" and California. You can cast one vote every day. Eligible organizations with the most votes could receive $25,000, $10,000, or $1,000, all of which we can use. Voting begins on September 29th and ends at midnight on December 14th, 2008. The more friends you can rally to vote for HRS, the better our chances of winning.

Wild Bunnies May Not Need Your Help!
Wild rabbits only nurse for a few minutes at night, and moms vanish the rest of the day. If you've disturbed a nest, put the babies back and restore the fur/grass covering; the mother will move them over the next 48 hours. More info...

We are headquartered in Richmond, California and have over 120 licensed educators and fosterers and 30 local chapters across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Looking for Breeding Information?
We believe domestic rabbits should live primarily indoors and be neutered or spayed. Overpopulation is big problem, and even breeding your rabbit a single time can have consequences. If you find yourself with an unexpected litter of rabbits, we do have some general information about newborn babies that may be of use.
