I edited a four minute short movie from some b-roll footage we had from our Canary Island trip in May. It’s a bunch of scenics and locals hanging out, as well as some chaotic shots from Cross Day. We went on the trip to shoot a pilot for an adventure TV show featuring speedflying, paragliding, and base jumping. None of those shots are featured in this cut though. I just thought it would be fun to edit a dreamy-trippy clip of some our other footage. Check it out the HD version in full-screen mode.
I edited a 45 second piece highlighting some of the shots from the Warrior hockey shoot with the Phantom Miro Camera. Check it out. For the whole skate spray shot, see a few post below this one. Some of the detail of the spray is lost with the flash compression unfortunately.
The Phantom is a fun camera to use, I can’t wait to use one again. Lighting for it can be tricky, but for outdoor use there are no issues.
I’m currently editing a 2 minute web piece for Ski Utah to be played on the Freeskier Magazine web site. It features Sage, Carr, and other local pro skiers.
Walmart?!? Yes, Walmart. I helped Struck work on some flash banners for Walmart last week, and they ended up breaking some long-standing click-through records on Yahoo and AOL. So they asked for another version this week. I was post-production supervisor for the second shoot at Cosmic Pictures and also worked on the compositing in After Effects.
The new Warrior site is already live and features some of our videos. After pressing play, click on the square to the right of ‘EMBED’ for a full-screen experience. The square won’t show up until you press play though.
Core did the editing, WLS did the programming, and we did the shooting…although we didn’t shoot all the videos on the site.
Here’s a sample of one of our slo-mo shots. Note the narrow depth of field:
Here’s a sample of a product video we shot; edited for kids with no attention span:
Exclamation Point! out of Montana hired us to edit four TV spots for the tourism board of Yellowstone Country. I concepted it and edited it based around Exclamation Point’s script. Jared Stanley created the map in Cinema 4D and did a great job. He’s available for freelance work, check out his site.
After he finished the map I animated the locations of the four Yellowstone Country ski resorts in After Effects. Greg Stump allowed some of the shots I took for his new movie to be used at the end; thanks Greg.
Core out of Saint Louis hired us for a two day web shoot in Detroit for Warrior Hockey. I rented a high-speed Phantom camera that shot 1200fps. It was bad-ass, I can’t wait to use one again. We also used the EX-1 to shoot random skits, like a mexican wrestler trying to rope a polar bear. Or ketchup beating up mustard. Standard chaos from Warrior Hockey. Our friend Denver Miller was D.O.P. and I was Director/Producer.
Bridger Bowl commissoned us to edit a 7 minute retrospective to be shown during a multiple movie screening on October 11th in Bozeman, MT. It features skiing from the 50s to the present day. Tom Jungst introduced the movie to the crowd but I couldn’t be there because of work. It was a fun project to edit but it was impossible to keep it at 7 minutes. Too much good footage. Watch it here.
We were hired through WLS by Push for a one day green screen shoot at Cosmic Pictures. It was a web shoot for a new site for Smokey Bones, a restaurant chain out east. We shot a variety of characters who will walk on screen and be dynamic characters for site visitors to click on, pick up, and throw. As you can see the model is on a treadmill, because the studio was not big enough to shoot an entire walking sequence.
Mike Kern from WLS directed, Korey was the cameraman, and I produced. In the next few weeks I will also be keying out all the footage, creating loops and prepping it for Flash delivery.
I was hired to shoot some scenics for a documentary on exiled kids from polygamist compounds. It’s a sad story that I’d like to see a positive outcome for everyone involved. But I don’t think that’s possible unfortunately. The movie is currently being edited in NYC and funded by the BBC for Storyville, check out the trailer here. Hopefully it’ll be in Sundance next year?
For the past 7 years we’ve been producing TV spots for the non-profit ski area Bridger Bowl. This year’s spots involved a bunch of motion graphics work to promote their new lift and terrain. Bridger skiers will recognize the two-toned rope, hand-carved rectangular red sign, and an old ski as a post -common sights at Bridger- that we incorporated into the ad. We’ll put up a video sample soon….
I was hired to shoot the 48 Straight event in Park City for Echo Sports Marketing. While the event started out sunny, the day ended in pouring rain and hail. My postion was a quarter of the way down; handheld Betacam. It was cool to see a bunch of athletes ride in person when I’ve only seen them in the The Collective movies I buy. Watch for the event to be aired on CBS Sports on October 12.
Another early morning shoot to document Bridger Bowl’s new lift being put in via heli. We will use the footage for our PBS documentary on the history of Bridger.
The site Getyourdrugon.com that We Like Small created was Ad Weeks ‘Ad of the Day’ and ‘Interactive Piece of The Day’ by Creativity Online. We helped them out by shooting the hands and keying out the footage. Congrats to We Like Small (and the agency Door Number 3) for the recognition and developing a cool interactive piece.
